Entertainment Industry and Social Media Essay - 675 Words
Bruce Willis once proclaimed that, ââ¬Å"Art imitates life and, sometimes, life imitates art. It is a weird combination of elements.â⬠And weather it be movies, TV shows, or even music, we are all exposed and influenced by the media. However, while the media may be influential to society, it is still a business and a complicated one at that. Everything in entertainment starts as a business and how the public responds/receives it is what makes it social. This business can have both positive and negative effects on society. It all depends on how far the entertainment business pushes the envelope. The entertainment business only cares about what sells. If scary movies are really popular thatââ¬â¢s what theyââ¬â¢ll produce. Just like if rap or countryâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Originally, the song was released as part of the business side of entertainment; it is the audience that turned it into a social event (same thought applies to any type of entertainment). Pharrellâ â¬â¢s song recently came up in the news after a group of teenagers were arrested in Tehran for posting a video of them dancing to the song ââ¬Å"Happy.â⬠Within two hours of the video being posted, 13 people connected the video were arrested for running afoul of Islamic codes of behavior that call for modesty in attire and behavior. Six of the people that were arrested claimed that they had no idea that the video was going to be posted online and were released. Another six were forced to repent on live television and were kept in prison. Authorities in Iran said that this should serve as a warning to other young citizens. Officers reported that the teen groupââ¬â¢s video was provocative and that it did not uphold to Tehranââ¬â¢s standards. Hassan Rouhani, the president of Tehran spoke about the incident and said ââ¬Å"Iran should embrace the Internet rather than view it as a threat.â⬠The president went on to explain that, ââ¬Å"We must recognize out citizensâ⠬⢠right to connect to the World Wide Web. Why are we so shaken up?
